Application Checklist for the Fort Cavazos Family Scholarship Fund

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that a completed packet, as listed above, has been submitted and/or mailed with sufficient postage. Postage-due mail will not be accepted and will be returned to the post office. Hand-delivered applications will not be accepted.

NOTE: Incomplete and/or late applications are ineligible for consideration. Postmarks are verified upon receipt.

Scholarship Awards

The review of applications by the Selection Committee is confidential and is made without regard to race, sex, religion or national origin.

Scholarships are awarded for excellence based on academic record, school and community activities and awards, personal essay, and letters of recommendation.

Scholarship selections are made in April and scholarship recipients will be notified via email no later than mid-May.

Awarded scholarships must be used during the school year immediately following the award.

The scholarship monies will be awarded upon receipt of the following: 1) a completed Fort Cavazos Family Scholarship Fund Letter, and 2) a letter of acceptance on official letterhead from the institutions of the student’s choice.

Funds are disbursed directly to the institution of higher learning and not to the individual recipient. The recipient is responsible for notification of the financial aid office of the institution of their choice.

Scholarship recipients who accept a full four-year scholarship (to include tuition, room, and board) from another source or receive an appointment to a military service academy must forfeit this scholarship and notify, in writing, the Fort Cavazos Family Scholarship Fund of their decision by August 1, 2024.

Scholarship recipients must register at the accredited institution of higher learning, at a minimum, as a part-time student with 6 credit hours.

Scholarship Awards are not renewable.

I graduated from Texas A&M in 2017 with a degree in Environmental Geosciences, where I followed my father's footsteps and joined the Corps of Cadets. I was also a member of the Aggie Band. The Fort Hood Scholarship helped me achieve my education goals without student loan debt. I got married in February 2020 to my beautiful wife Meagan, and we are very grateful for the position we are in thanks to the series of events that kicked off with this scholarship. We've lived and worked in DFW for about five years, and hope to someday give back to the military community that has given so much opportunity to us.
